We're beyond excited to introduce one of our most powerful tools yet—the Roxxem Editor. Imagine taking any song from YouTube, uploading and reviewing the content on Roxxem, creating live classroom games, and turning it into dynamic lessons—all in just a few minutes. Sounds amazing, right?

With the Editor, you're no longer limited to the Roxxem library—you can use Roxxem with any song you and your students want to learn. But before you dive in, let's walk through how it works and what you need to know to maintain the quality of songs on Roxxem.

Overview: How the Editor Works

When you upload a song into the Roxxem Editor, it starts off in “Draft” mode. This means it won't be visible in the broader Roxxem app just yet. Why? We want to ensure every song meets our quality standards before it's published. But don't worry—while in Draft mode, you can still watch the music video, play games, and assign homework to your students.

Once the song is internally approved, it will officially be available across the Roxxem app for all to enjoy!

A few key things to note:

  • Any user can view and play a song you've created in the Editor, but only you (the original creator) can make edits.
  • We want to avoid duplicates -- there should not be multiple copies of the same song (even if the video is different). If your song is already there, you're good to go! If not, it's time to create something new.

Step-by-Step Guide to Using the Roxxem Editor

1. Search for Your Song

Begin by searching for the song you want to use in the Editor. If you don't find it, no worries—just click “New Song” or start directly https://editor.roxxem.com/songs/create.

Paste the YouTube link for the music video you'd like to use. Here's a pro tip: If you want to auto-generate lyrics, make sure the YouTube video has closed captions (CC). You can check this by clicking the “CC” button on the bottom right of the video on YouTube—if it lights up, you're good to go!

You can still upload YouTube videos without closed captions; however, this will require more manual entry of lyrics. Add the language and press “Create Song.”

3. Add Lyrics

Next up, it's time to review and adjust the auto-generated lyrics. Hit the play button for each line to ensure the start and stop times are correct. If your video doesn't have closed captions, no problem—you can manually add the lyrics here. Once everything is set, press “Create Lyric.”

4. Add Words

Review the word segments the Editor has pulled from the lyrics for your lessons and games. Most will be accurately separated by individual words, but make sure to check for any phrases that may need tweaking. Once you're satisfied with the selections, click "Add Words."

5. Add Song Info

The next step is reviewing the auto-generated details: the song's description, release year, genre, and tags. If anything wasn't automatically filled in, go ahead and add it yourself. This ensures students can easily find and use your song in their lessons.

6. Review and Finalize

Before you finish, there are a few final tweaks to make sure your song is ready for prime time:

  • Skip Lyric: For sections of the video that aren't relevant for learning (like long intros, music video scenes without lyrics, or outros), set “Skip Lyric” to “True.”
  • First Sung: Make sure the first line of the song is correctly marked as “True” under “First Sung.”
  • After each change, hit "Save Update." Once you're sure everything's good to go, click “Update Song Info” and head back to the main screen.
And that's it!

You're now ready to share your new song with your students. Whether you're adding translations, creating live games, or building assignments, the Roxxem Editor gives you all the tools you need to make language learning interactive and fun.

We're still refining the Editor, so if you encounter any bugs or issues, don't hesitate to reach out. Your feedback helps us make the experience better for everyone.

Check out our video tutorial for a visual walkthrough, and happy teaching! We can't wait to see the exciting songs you upload and the incredible lessons you create.
